Whatever was ailing Carey Price, it wasn’t a problem Thursday night as the goaltender backstopped the Canadiens to a 2-0 win over the Vancouver Canucks
The hat trick plus an assist added to Ovechkin’s 12-game point streak and also extended his league lead in goals to 24 goals. Ovechkin is currently on pace for 63 goals at the age of 33, and while it is likely that he may maintain that pace over the remainder of the season, it is an encouraging sign that the future Hall of Famer continues to defy Father Time.
The game was a total washout for the Montreal special teams. Montreal’s penalty-kill was outstanding Sunday in Chicago but Minnesota scored on all four of its power plays. The Montreal power play not only failed to score on its one opportunity but it also gave up a shorthanded goal.
Jalen Luypen scored the big goal to put himself into Oil Kings lore and give his team a 1-0 lead at the time. And then things really got interesting as Trey Fix-Wolansky went on to score 30 seconds into overtime to give the Oil Kings a 3-2 victory.
But I’ll also remember those nights where we made the Forum shake and sent shockwaves throughout Montreal. As your cheers now go straight to my heart, as you honor me tonight by retiring my jersey, and as you welcome me now like you did on my first day, my friends, tonight, I’m coming home.”
