Rising Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime made the decision to withdraw from the French Open after consulting with the doctor. The 19-year-old visibly struggled on the court during the Lyon final on Saturday because of a groin issue.
Yet, the Canadian refused to retire the match as French Benoit Paire claimed a 6-4 6-3 win. Auger-Aliassime’s French Open campaign was immediately put in doubt as the Canadian confirmed the following day he wouldn’t be able to play at the tournament.
The 18-year-old will have to wait for at least one more year to make his main draw debut on the clay of Roland Garros. “Obviously i didn’t feel great in the final….I was just trying to finish the match. We were waiting to get some exams done in Paris, we went this morning and they weren’t in favour of me playing.
